Beautiful days in the warm winter Sun...
apart from sitting on the back step in this glorious winter we are having and having a snack with William my next favourite thing is being with my veges... oh glorious days in the sunshine...
Cool days and time for fun jobs..
I love it when the days close in up here in the mountains. Sleeping in late.. coming inside before 7pm and time to catch up on fun little jobs.. today I spent time renewing the old and making the new signs for the garden.. last year's project was the chicken mural which is still looking good. Its such a lovely time of year to do things like this.
Let the Daikons begin..
This one is giving us a serious feast
We had our first frost this week, the broad beans are almost a metre high and this beautiful Daikon came from our heavy clay soils.. a little miracle on the mountain
Last warm days going.. going.. gone..
Luca installed my very own 'garden sink' for me and William is learning how to fill the watering can. Microgreens abound.. but not for long
Winter Solstace awaits and the vegetables are singing her merry tune
The first of the cold season vegetables are coming along. We are picking purple radishes, daikon, pak choy, rainbow chard, potatoes, lettuce and all sorts of herbs this week. A late Indian Summer has brought us a bountiful crop of Eggplants. The broad beans are coming along and their trellis is up and running.
Jerusalem Artichokes
Wow this year is going to be a bumper crop. These beautiful looking 'sunflowers' promise a bountiful harvest underground in our deep red soil.
Found treasures
Today I found this lovely biscuit tin at the tip. Unfortunately, it's lid had been squashed so I decided to bring it home and make it into a little garden.
Ginger in full Summer abundance

Relaxing on the back deck.. enjoying the garden

Black Sapote - Chocolate Pudding Fruit
Our Black Sapote is really coming into its own this year. The fruit are big and abundant. Luca mixed some of the fruit with cream the other day and it was totally devine.
Beetroot Mania
I've been growing this Yellow Eckendorf beetroot for 2 years now. I once saw a picture of one that was almost a metre long. Mine is about 50cms. I'm not sure I can wait another two years. Its taking up a lot of space in my garden. But its been fun.

Spring has well and truly Sprung
7th November, 2010
Its a time of renewal in the garden. Today we have pulled out a lot of winter veges and are adding compost and other goodies to improve the soil. Big dried bunches of Mizuna and Mibuna have been removed ready for seed collection and the late harvest of Kohl Rabi and Chioggia beetroot was wonderful. We started picking new season 'Peachcotes' too.
Winter veggies waning....

Views from on high....
Luca finally decided he would participate in the blog and took photos from our third floor verandah today looking down on the garden.

Spring 2010
Glorious days, sunshine, cool evenings and the absolutely beauty of the garden. This Spring we have the joy of our garden in full bloom. Luca has worked hard choosing, ordering and then planting and tending speciality varieties of Lily, Iris and other gorgeous blooms and they are all rushing headlong now into Spring. Big fleshy black sapote are ripening and the mulberries are big and juicy. What a wonderful season.
First day of Spring in the garden 2010
Its a pretty chilly start to Spring here in Beechmont. We have celebrated by lighting a candle in the early morning.
First Garden Blog
After many years of fighting in the garden Luca (he a perfectionist, me a lets try it and see!) and now we love to garden together. I tend to take care of the vegetables and he looks after the exotics but together we have woven a magical dream of lush vegetation around our house. It gives us more pleasure than we ever imagined it could.
